Resorts World is 1st Vegas Property to Debut Apple Wallet Room Key
Resorts World Las Vegas is the first of likely many hotels on the Las Vegas Strip to permit guests to save digital room keys in their Apple Wallets.
This added convenience enables guests to check in early, avoiding what could be a lengthy check-in queue, and to unlock their room digitally without needing to download a hotel app.
In 2010, the InterContinental Hotels Group launched digital room keys at various Holiday Inn locations. However, up to this point, all have functioned solely alongside specific hotel applications, which numerous guests view as an unwarranted inconvenience and privacy concern. (And some still needed guests to check in at the front desk for confirmation!)
Most guests can now check into Resorts World via a web link emailed to them (https://skiptheline.rwlasvegas.com) once they complete their reservation. This will grant them an inactive key that can be saved to an iPhone or Apple Watch (similar to an airline boarding pass).
When you are ready to check in, access Apple Wallet, choose the key, and tap “check-in” to be assigned a room. To activate the key, position the device with Apple Wallet close to the communication reader at the door of the room.
Keys can be exchanged with other iOS users via text messages or AirDrop. If you switch rooms, all your keys will instantly be revised with the new room number.
If your iPhone requires charging, your key will continue to function for up to five hours. Just bring your iPhone or Apple Watch close to the door lock — there's no requirement to unlock your device or launch the app.
Resorts World’s digital room keys necessitate an iPhone 8 or more recent, operating on iOS 16.4 or above, or an Apple Watch Series 3 or newer using WatchOS 9.2 or greater.
Resorts World states that Apple Wallet keeps the keys exclusively on the devices of guests. Apple is unable to view the data, as well as the doors or areas that they open.
